The Journey
This is a story on some moral truth, emotional exposition and spiritual guidance.
Episode 1.
It's been weeks, and I didn't feel like resuming school just yet. My mom being the only one I live with could not see to my truancy and has started raising her voice.
Secondary school sucks, the stress, the notes, the fellowship and exams. I just wanted more break from that all.
I attended St. Philips Mission School; be sure there was less fun in a mission school of that calibre. I loved movies, eating and phone calls, not necessarily chatting per say.
Third week of resumption, my sun glasses of nonchalance seem to have broken and now reality dawned that I must be in school.
When I arrived school, I was given a cold welcome by annoying teachers who instantly judged my arrogance. So, I raised high soldiers to enter the boring class I left last term.
We were doing biology, and as a SS2 student, If you weren't good, repeating was the order because of our proximity to Senior Wassce.
The teacher said in his ever unchanging tone, " what is the scientific name for an Euglena?"
The whole class was as silent as a grave yard. I wondered in my mind, and wished I had not resumed that day, knowing well that the teacher could call on me to make fun of me having offended him and the whole staff room for being unnecessarily truant.
But luck fell on me that day, when a young boy rose up and answered " Euglena Viridis ". The whole class didn't know whether to clap or woo him, cause they had no inkling idea about the answer. So to the teacher we all stared.
" Correct, clap for him " the teacher retorted.
Iron against gravel was the sound of the ovation of dullards.
I asked Funke, "who is that boy?". She heightened my curiosity when she said " I'll tell you after class ".
All throughout the class, I was seeing a movie in my mind, imagining and staring so he doesn't see my gaze.
After about some 20 minutes, the class was over, so I ran to meet her, so we began talking.
" He joined us this term, his name is Samuel, and he is gbona; I even have an eye for him " Funke narrated
Everyone knew Funke's mind was in her lips, she uttered everything she thought about. In my mind I just hissed in disgust at Funke for her futile hope.
It was break time soon enough and we all went to the school cafeteria. Trust me, my eyes were on him 29/8. I didn't force myself into it, I just did by default, or what people call unconsciously.
I went outside the cafeteria towards the garden to use the nearest waste bin, when he walked out the same time.
I noticed foot steps behind me, but because I wanted him to come I deliberately turn off my mind to believe he was coming because I wanted it to be a surprise.
Then I heard, " good afternoon " I pretended not to hear, because of my heartbeat. My heart was racing bad, I thought I was bold, having belonged to the Literary and Debating Society over and over.
I heard again " good afternoon "
Then I turned with words in my mouth I considered sweet to create a first impression.
All of a suddenly at the last turn, I saw the new security guard. He had come to inform me to leave that spot because of recent kidnappings going on in the area. I thank God I had not said a word.
" Yes sir" I said in shock as I left.
As I entered into the cafeteria, I heard another say " hi, good afternoon" and in utter disgust of a failed mind script outside, I answered "yes" and my oh my, it was Samuel.
I tried comporting myself but the shock was written all over my face, like I had seen a ghost.
Then he said, __ __ __
